The Cyprus Scops Owl is a small, endemic owl found only on the island of Cyprus. It is a secretive nocturnal predator often found in open woodlands and cultivated areas.

Endemic to Cyprus, inhabiting open woodlands, orchards, olive groves, and cultivated areas, typically below 1,000 meters.
How to spot
Listen for its very distinctive, single, soft 'hoo' call, repeated at regular intervals. Look for its small size and cryptic brown plumage. Nocturnal spotlighting in appropriate wooded habitats.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal. Most vocal from dusk to dawn, especially during the breeding season (spring-early summer).
