The Tawny-browed Owl is a medium-sized owl endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome of southeastern Brazil, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina. It is a striking inhabitant of these humid forests.
Where to spot
Humid Atlantic Forest and gallery forests in southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina.
How to spot
Listen for its deep, rhythmic hooting calls, which can carry well through the forest. Scan the mid-story to canopy of mature forests with a powerful spotlight.
When to spot
Nocturnal. Most active and vocal from dusk to dawn, especially during the breeding season when calls are more frequent.
