A very small and active sunbird, male Collared Sunbirds have iridescent green upperparts and a bright yellow belly separated by a narrow black band on the breast. Females are duller.

Widespread across Sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting forests, woodlands, savannas, gardens, and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Look for it visiting flowering trees and shrubs, often hovering like a hummingbird. The male's black collar and bright yellow belly are distinct. Listen for its high-pitched, rapid 'tsip-tsip' calls.
