The Ornate Sunbird is a striking species, particularly in the male's breeding plumage which features iridescent green and purplish-blue. It is found in various forest and woodland habitats.
Where to spot
Found in Southeast Asia, including parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, inhabiting lowland forests, forest edges, coastal scrub, and gardens.
How to spot
Search for it in flowering trees and shrubs within its habitat. Its iridescent plumage is a key identification feature. Listen for its distinctive high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most visible during morning and late afternoon foraging. Look for it especially during the breeding season when males are most colorful.
