A brilliant sunbird, male Nile Valley Sunbirds are entirely glossy metallic green-blue or bronze, with no other contrasting colors. Females are duller. They are active nectar-feeders with a long, curved bill.
Where to spot
Found in Northeast Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, including Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, and Yemen. Inhabits arid acacia woodlands, palm groves, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for it visiting flowering trees and shrubs in dry, open habitats. The male's uniform metallic plumage is unmistakable. Listen for its high-pitched, buzzy calls.
