Spotted
The Elegant Spiderhunter is a striking species with a long, decurved bill and a mostly olive-green body, distinctively marked with a bright yellow rump. It is found in forested habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Talaud Islands of Indonesia, inhabiting primary and secondary lowland forests and forest edges.
How to spot
Requires dedicated searching within its island forest habitat. Look for its long bill and bright yellow rump as it feeds on nectar and insects. Listen for its calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons when foraging activity is high. Can be challenging due to its restricted range.
Unlike many spiderhunters, which are drab, the Elegant Spiderhunter lives up to its name with a bright yellow rump, making it unusually striking among its genus.
