Spotted
The Chocó Tinamou is a poorly known and endangered tinamou, endemic to the highly biodiverse and exceptionally wet Chocó region of western Colombia and extreme eastern Panama.
Where to spot
Restricted to the lowland and foothill humid forests of the Chocó biogeographic region of western Colombia and extreme eastern Panama.
How to spot
Very difficult to observe due to its rarity, restricted and often inaccessible range, and dense habitat. Listen for its calls in the Chocó forests, which are the primary means of confirming its presence.
When to spot
The best chance of detection is at dawn and dusk through its distinctive vocalizations.
The Chocó region where this tinamou lives is one of the wettest places on Earth, characterized by extremely high rainfall and a unique, rich biodiversity found nowhere else.
