Spotted
The Lesser Nothura is the smallest species within the Nothura genus, endemic to central-eastern Brazil. It is a highly camouflaged ground-dweller of grasslands and savannas.
Where to spot
Restricted to grasslands and Cerrado savanna habitats in central-eastern Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its high-pitched, rapid whistling calls. Patience is key, as its small size and excellent camouflage make visual detection challenging in its dense grassland habitat.
When to spot
Active during the day, particularly vocal in the early morning and late afternoon.
