Spotted
The Barred Tinamou is a poorly known and exceptionally elusive species native to specific regions of northern South America. Its plumage features subtle but distinctive barring, though visual encounters are rare.
Where to spot
Restricted to humid lowland forests, primarily in the border region of southern Venezuela and eastern Colombia.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe visually. Best detected by its distinct, often mournful call emanating from dense forest undergrowth. Patience and careful listening are paramount.
When to spot
Most likely to be active and vocal during the early morning and late afternoon.
Due to its reclusive nature and limited, remote range, the Barred Tinamou is one of the least studied tinamou species, with much of its behavior and ecology remaining a mystery.
