A strikingly marked partridge found in Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra, easily identified by its distinctive chestnut-colored 'necklace' band on its neck and chest.
Where to spot
Lowland and montane primary and mature secondary evergreen forests in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and possibly a small part of southern Thailand.
How to spot
Extremely shy. Listen for its distinctive, often repeated, whistled calls. Look for it foraging quietly on the forest floor, often near dense vegetation or bamboo thickets.
When to spot
Best observed at dawn or dusk when it is foraging. It can also be heard calling during the breeding season.
