Montane rainforests, typically at elevations between 1,000 and 1,700 meters, across the mountainous regions of Borneo (Malaysia and Indonesia).

Extremely shy and difficult to approach. Best strategy is to sit quietly in suitable habitat and listen for its distinctive, often shrill calls. A good view might require patience near trails or clearings.
