The Black-throated Sibia is a medium-sized, attractive bird with a distinct black throat and face, contrasting with grey underparts and olive-brown upperparts. It is an active and vocal species, typically found singly or in small groups foraging in the mid-story of montane forests. This species is endemic to Taiwan.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Taiwan. It typically inhabits broadleaf forests, mixed forests, and bamboo thickets, primarily at mid to high elevations in the mountains.
How to spot
Look for its active movements in the mid-canopy. Listen for its distinctive, often melodic, and somewhat repetitive calls. The prominent black throat and face are unmistakable identification features.
When to spot
Present year-round on Taiwan. They are most active and vocal during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon.
The Black-throated Sibia is one of Taiwan's endemic avian treasures, adapted to the island's unique high-altitude forest ecosystems.
