Where to spot
Endemic to the marshes and reedbeds of southern Iraq and southwestern Iran. Inhabits dense Phragmites reedbeds, often near water.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often harsh or buzzing calls emanating from deep within the reeds. Look for subtle movements among the reed stems. Patience and a good ear are essential for identification.
