Where to spot
Common in deciduous, coniferous, and mixed forests, as well as suburban and urban areas, across eastern and central North America.
How to spot
Look for its unmistakable bright blue, white, and black plumage and prominent crest. Listen for its loud 'jay jay' calls or its wide array of mimicry. They are often bold and highly visible.
When to spot
Active year-round during daylight hours. Easily observed at bird feeders.
