The White-billed Raven is a large, entirely black raven with a heavy, pale, and pointed bill, endemic to the mountainous regions of eastern Africa. It is often seen soaring over high altitudes.
Where to spot
Endemic to the mountainous regions of eastern Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, found in montane forests, moorland, and high-altitude grasslands.
How to spot
Its most distinguishing feature is its large, pale, ivory-colored bill. Look for this large, black raven soaring high or perched on prominent rocky outcrops. Its calls are typically deep, resonant croaks.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during daylight hours, often seen soaring over valleys and peaks, or foraging in open areas. Best observed in the morning when thermals are forming.
