The Collared Crow is a distinctive, large crow found in eastern Asia, easily recognized by its entirely black plumage with a prominent white collar around the nape and sides of the neck.
Where to spot
Found along the coasts and estuaries of eastern China, Taiwan, and northern Vietnam, inhabiting coastal wetlands, mudflats, rice paddies, and nearby agricultural areas.
How to spot
Its white collar is an unmistakable identification mark. Look for this large, black and white crow foraging on the ground in open coastal or agricultural areas. Listen for its deep, clear 'caw-caw' calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during daylight hours, particularly visible during low tide when foraging on mudflats.
