A large, iridescent green pheasant native to Southeast Asia, distinct from the Indian Peafowl by its more uniform metallic green plumage and feathered facial skin.
Where to spot
Scattered populations in forests, savannas, and along riverbanks in Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, parts of Indonesia). Critically endangered in the wild.
How to spot
Very wary and secretive. Best observed from a distance in known habitats. Listen for their loud, distinctive calls, which differ from the Indian Peafowl. Look for them near water sources or forest edges.
When to spot
Most active during early morning and late afternoon. Calls can be heard at dawn and dusk. Breeding season typically runs from March to May.
