The Black-crowned Pitta is a colorful, secretive pitta with a black crown, blue back, and vibrant red belly. It is endemic to Borneo.
Where to spot
Primary and mature secondary lowland and hill forests on the island of Borneo.
How to spot
Focus on the forest floor in areas with thick leaf litter. Listen for its distinctive, often repeated calls. Remaining quiet and still increases observation chances.
When to spot
Year-round, but most vocal during the breeding season. Active during daylight hours.
