The Blue-banded Pitta is a vividly colored pitta with a black head, a bright blue band across its breast, and a rich red belly. It is endemic to Borneo.
Where to spot
Primary and mature secondary lowland and hill forests, particularly in the undergrowth with thick leaf litter, on the island of Borneo.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, clear calls. Look for movement on the forest floor. They are notoriously shy, so extreme patience and quiet observation are required.
When to spot
Year-round. Most vocal during the breeding season. Active during daylight hours.
