Spotted
The Alpine Robin is a small, relatively plain robin species found in the highlands of New Guinea. Its subtle brown and white plumage provides camouflage in its mossy, high-altitude habitat.
Where to spot
Endemic to the high mountains of New Guinea, typically found in subalpine and alpine grasslands, heath, and stunted moss forests above 2,500 meters.
How to spot
Focus on the undergrowth and lower vegetation in alpine habitats. Listen for its soft, unobtrusive calls. It can be elusive, blending well with the sparse vegetation.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Best observed during the warmer, calmer parts of the day when it is actively foraging for insects.
