Spotted
The Yellow-bellied Robin is a small, attractive flyrobin found in parts of New Guinea, distinguished by its bright yellow belly contrasting with a darker upper body. It is typically a forest understory bird.
Where to spot
Endemic to New Guinea and parts of Queensland, Australia, primarily found in tropical lowland and hill rainforests.
How to spot
Focus on the forest understory and along forest edges. Patience is key, as it can be elusive. Look for its distinctive yellow belly against the darker foliage or listen for its soft calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Best observed during early morning and late afternoon when foraging activity is higher and forest light is softer.
Despite its bright belly, this robin is often difficult to spot as it stays low in the dense forest undergrowth, relying on its quick movements to catch prey.
