Spotted
The Baudo Guan is a large, dark guan species found in the humid lowland and foothill forests along the Pacific coast of Colombia and Ecuador. It is often considered a subspecies of the Crested Guan.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Pacific slope of western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. It inhabits humid tropical lowland and foothill forests, often near rivers or forest clearings.
How to spot
Listen for their distinctive, booming calls to pinpoint their location within the dense forest. Look for their large, dark bodies moving through the mid-story or upper canopy. They can be shy, so patience and quiet movement are beneficial.
When to spot
Present year-round. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons when they are most active and vocal.
