The Snow Mountains Whistler is a distinctive bird endemic to the high-altitude forests of the Snow Mountains in New Guinea. It is a relatively large whistler, adapted to colder montane environments.

Endemic to the montane forests of the Snow Mountains (Jayawijaya Mountains) in western New Guinea, found at high elevations.
How to spot
Look for its relatively robust size, olive-green upperparts, and yellowish underparts, though precise markings may vary. Listen for its loud, clear, and complex whistling song, characteristic of high-altitude whistlers.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during early mornings and late afternoons, particularly during the breeding season.
This species is named after its habitat in the perpetually snow-capped peaks of the Snow Mountains (Jayawijaya Mountains), a unique and challenging environment for bird life.
