Spotted
The Ashy Woodswallow is a sleek, medium-sized passerine bird with soft, ash-grey plumage and a short, stout, bluish bill. They are known for their graceful, swallow-like flight.
Where to spot
Widespread across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, typically found in open woodlands, grasslands, agricultural areas, and sometimes urban environments.
How to spot
Look for them perched upright on dead branches, power lines, or other prominent vantage points, often in small groups. Observe their distinctive 'swooping' flight as they catch insects.
When to spot
Resident year-round in most areas, with some local movements. Most active during daylight hours, often seen perching conspicuously.

Woodswallows are unique in their family for their ability to feed on nectar, using their brush-tipped tongues, in addition to catching insects in flight.
