The Tagula Woodswallow is a relatively small and distinctive member of the woodswallow family, endemic to a specific island group. It typically has a dark, uniform plumage with a pale blue bill.
Where to spot
Endemic to Tagula Island (Sudest Island) in the Louisiade Archipelago off southeastern New Guinea. Found in open woodlands and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Observe them perched on exposed branches or power lines in open country or forest edges. Its small size and dark plumage in its very restricted range are key identifiers.
When to spot
Resident year-round on Tagula Island. Active during the day.
Many woodswallows are highly social birds, and the Tagula Woodswallow is no exception, often seen in small flocks and engaging in communal roosting.
