Spotted
A swift from Central and South America, distinguished by a small white patch on its forehead, often challenging to observe given its high-flying nature. It is an agile aerial insectivore.
Where to spot
Found in Central America (Costa Rica, Panama) and northwestern South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela). Prefers montane cloud forests and open areas.
How to spot
Look for a medium-sized dark swift. The small white spot on the forehead requires excellent viewing conditions or close proximity to identify. Pay attention to its agile and erratic flight pattern.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its range, with increased activity during the breeding season. Active primarily during daylight hours.

This swift is often found foraging in mixed flocks with other swift species, but its distinct, albeit subtle, forehead spot helps to differentiate it with good views.
