Distributed across South and Southeast Asia, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Inhabits montane evergreen and temperate forests.
How to spot
Look for its plain grey head and bright eye. It moves quickly through the mid-story and undergrowth. Listen for its high-pitched, often repeated 'chi-chi-chi' calls.

Resident year-round. Most active during early morning and late afternoon, often as part of mixed-species foraging flocks.
