The Yellow-fronted Barbet is a colorful Asian barbet, predominantly green with a bright yellow forehead, blue face, and often red and black markings around its eyes. It is endemic to Sri Lanka.
Where to spot
Humid lowland and montane forests, forest edges, and dense gardens across Sri Lanka.
How to spot
Listen for its persistent, rhythmic 'pok-pok-pok' calls. Look for its bright colors in fruiting trees or on exposed branches, particularly the yellow forehead and blue face.
When to spot
Year-round; most active and vocal during the breeding season (around December to September). Best observed in the early morning.
The Yellow-fronted Barbet is considered sacred in some local traditions in Sri Lanka, revered for its beauty and the role it plays in the forest.
