Where to spot
Open woodlands, forest edges, and cultivated areas with scattered trees in Southeast Asia, including parts of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, repetitive 'ko-tek' or 'wok-wok' calls. Look for its bright colors in fruiting trees or perched on branches in the mid-canopy.
When to spot
Year-round; most vocal during the early morning and late afternoon.
Despite its common name, the 'green ear' patch of this barbet can sometimes appear bluish or yellowish depending on the light and individual variation.
