The Yellow-eared Parrot is a large, primarily green parrot with prominent yellow patches covering its ears and extending down its cheeks. It is a critically endangered species.
Where to spot
High-altitude cloud forests, specifically areas with remnant Wax Palm populations, in the Andes of Colombia and far northern Ecuador.
How to spot
Observation requires visiting specific conservation reserves. Look for them flying high overhead or feeding in the crowns of tall Wax Palms. Their loud, squawking calls are distinctive.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active at dawn and dusk when flying between roosting sites and feeding on Wax Palm fruits.
