Spotted
The Green Parakeet is a medium-sized, entirely green parakeet that can be difficult to distinguish from similar species without careful observation of its facial markings.
Where to spot
Dry and humid forests, woodlands, semi-open areas, and urban environments in eastern Mexico and parts of Central America (Nicaragua to Costa Rica).
How to spot
Look for noisy flocks flying overhead or feeding in fruiting trees. Listen for their harsh, squawking calls. Pay attention to subtle variations in facial patterns and bare orbital rings for identification.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon.
The 'Green Parakeet' is a species complex, and its taxonomy has undergone various revisions, with several populations now recognized as distinct species.
