Fuertes's Parrot is a critically endangered and highly localized parrot endemic to the Colombian Andes. It is a small, predominantly green parrot with a reddish-orange forecrown and a blue wing patch.
Where to spot
High-altitude cloud forests and stunted montane forests in a very restricted area of the central Andes of Colombia. It is highly dependent on specific wax palm forests.
How to spot
Requires specialized knowledge of its few known habitats. Look for small groups feeding on wax palm fruits. The combination of green, orange forecrown, and blue wing patch is distinctive.
When to spot
Best observed in the early morning or late afternoon when foraging. Observation is extremely difficult due to its rarity. It is a resident species.
