Spotted
The Red-throated Robin is a small, distinctive bird endemic to New Guinea's forests. It is characterized by its dark upperparts and a noticeable reddish or orange patch on its throat, contrasting with a pale belly.
Where to spot
Endemic to the montane rainforests of New Guinea, typically found at mid to high elevations (around 1,500-2,800 meters), preferring the forest mid-canopy.
How to spot
Look for a small, dark bird with a distinctive red or orange throat patch. It moves actively through the foliage. Listen for its high-pitched, thin calls, which can be hard to pinpoint.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during daylight hours, often foraging solitarily or in pairs. Early mornings are good for observation.
