Spotted
The White-masked Antbird is a striking and extremely localized antbird, characterized by a prominent white mask around its eyes that contrasts with its dark rufous-brown plumage.
Where to spot
Endemic to a very small area of humid lowland forest in northeastern Peru, specifically near the confluence of the Rio Cushabatay and the Ucayali River.
How to spot
Requires specific expeditions to its known habitat. Listen for its distinctive calls, as it can be quite skulking. Its white mask is unique among antbirds.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best sought during the dry season.
This species is known from only a very small, restricted area and is considered critically endangered due to habitat loss within its tiny range.
