Spotted
The Immaculate Antbird is a medium to large-sized antbird, uniformly dark sooty-grey or blackish, with a relatively plain appearance, hence its name.
Where to spot
Inhabits the understory of humid lowland and foothill forests across northern South America, from Colombia and Venezuela to northern Brazil and the Guianas.
How to spot
Locate army ant swarms and patiently wait. Listen for their distinctive, often loud and ringing calls. Their uniform dark plumage helps identification.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the early morning and late afternoon when army ants are active.
This species is a classic army-ant follower and often forms the core of mixed-species antbird aggregations around ant swarms.
