The Black Antshrike is a striking species with males being almost entirely glossy black. It is a resident of dense humid forests in the Guianas and northern Brazil.

How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, accelerating 'tew-tew-tew-tew' call. Scan the dense understory for movement. Males can be conspicuous when vocalizing, despite their dark plumage.
