Bruijn's Brush-turkey is an extremely rare and poorly known megapode, endemic to the remote montane forests of New Guinea. It is considered one of the most enigmatic birds, with very few documented sightings by ornithologists.
Where to spot
Extremely restricted range, believed to be endemic to the montane rainforests of Waigeo Island (West Papua, Indonesia), typically at elevations above 600 meters. Observation is exceptionally difficult due to its rarity and remote, dense habitat.
How to spot
This is a bird for highly specialized expeditions to remote, specific locations. If encountered, look for a medium-sized, dark megapode with a bare, dark greyish head and neck, and a relatively small, stiff tail. Its shy nature and dense forest habitat make it incredibly elusive.
