Spotted
The Inornate Sunbird is a less colorful sunbird, with both sexes generally dull olive-green or yellowish-brown, lacking the vibrant iridescence of many relatives. It inhabits forests.
Where to spot
Found in parts of Indonesia, specifically on Sumatra and Borneo, inhabiting primary and secondary lowland forests, forest edges, and scrubland.
How to spot
Requires patient searching due to its drab plumage. Look for its active movements around flowering plants in the forest. Listen for its soft, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Often observed foraging quietly in the forest understory or mid-story, particularly in the mornings.
Its 'inornate' or plain appearance allows it to blend seamlessly into the dense foliage of its forest habitat, making it harder to spot than its flashy cousins.
