Spotted
The Tui Parakeet is a small, predominantly green parakeet found across the Amazon basin. It is characterized by a bright orange patch on its chin, which can be difficult to see in the field.
Where to spot
Humid lowland rainforests and riverine forests throughout the Amazon basin, including parts of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia.
How to spot
Listen for their distinctive rapid, chattering calls. Look for fast-flying flocks. When perched, look for the orange chin and the subtle yellow on the wing-bend, which can aid in identification.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, particularly noisy and visible in the early morning and late afternoon. This is a resident species.
