The Pale-billed Antpitta is a highly localized and critically endangered species, characterized by its pale bill and relatively plain brownish plumage with subtle streaking.
Where to spot
Endemic to a very restricted area of humid montane forests in the Andes of northern Peru.
How to spot
Requires visiting specific, protected forest fragments. Listening for its distinctive vocalizations is paramount, as it is extremely shy and difficult to spot.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best sought during the early morning.
This species is known from only a very small, fragmented habitat, making it one of the most threatened antpittas.
