The Collared Treepie is a distinctive corvid species found in the Himalayan region, characterized by its black collar and varying shades of grey and rufous plumage. It is often encountered in hill forests.
Where to spot
Restricted to the Himalayas and foothills, ranging from Nepal across Northeast India, Bhutan, Myanmar, and parts of China, typically in broadleaf and mixed montane forests.
How to spot
Search in the mid to upper canopy of montane forests. Listen for its calls, which are similar to other treepies but may have distinct variations. Its black collar is a key identification mark.
When to spot
Present year-round in its native range. Best observed during early mornings or late afternoons when foraging activity is highest.
