Pander's Ground Jay is a beautiful and somewhat elusive corvid species adapted to the harsh desert environments of Central Asia. It is primarily terrestrial, recognized by its distinctive black crown and pale body plumage.
Where to spot
Found in the arid and semi-arid desert landscapes of Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and parts of Iran and Afghanistan.
How to spot
Scan open desert plains for this pale-bodied, black-crowned bird. It is often seen walking or running on the ground. Its calls are varied and can help in detection, though it can be quite shy.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon, to avoid extreme midday heat.
