Spotted
The Sulphur-bearded Spinetail is a distinctive Furnariid with a striking patch of yellow on its throat, often appearing as a 'beard'. It is found in wetlands and marshy areas.
Where to spot
Inhabits marshes, reedbeds, and dense vegetation along the edges of lakes and rivers in southeastern South America, including Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and southern Brazil.
How to spot
Look for it clinging to vertical reeds or perched low in marsh vegetation. Listen for its sharp, distinctive calls. The bright yellow throat is a clear identifying mark.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours throughout the year. Breeding season (spring/summer) is a good time to observe due to increased activity and vocalizations.
Its bright yellow throat patch is particularly prominent when the bird calls or displays, making it quite eye-catching despite its otherwise subtle plumage.
