The Rufous-headed Foliage-gleaner is a Furnariid easily identified by its prominent rufous or reddish-brown head. It forages actively in dense undergrowth of humid forests.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests of the western Andes in Colombia and Ecuador.
How to spot
Scan dense undergrowth and vine tangles in humid forests. Its rufous head is a very strong identification feature. Listen for its distinctive calls, often a series of harsh notes.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most visible during early mornings.
This species often forages in very dense tangles of vines and vegetation, where its rufous head can sometimes be the only visible part.
