Where to spot

How to spot
Look for its overall black plumage and the male's unique red casque. The female's black bill and casque are also distinctive. Listen for its rather quiet, soft cackling or grunting calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day, often seen foraging in the mid-canopy or flying between trees, typically in pairs or small groups.
