The Striated Laughingthrush is a distinctive and often vocal babbler found across the Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia. It is easily recognized by its heavily streaked plumage on the head, breast, and back.
Where to spot
Ranges from the Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan, northeastern India) eastward through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and southern China. Inhabits dense undergrowth of montane evergreen and mixed forests, especially bamboo thickets.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, characteristic laughing or chattering calls. Look for movement in dense undergrowth; they can be shy but sometimes show themselves briefly. The bold streaking on its head and body is unmistakable.

Resident year-round. Most vocal and active during the breeding season (spring/early summer). Often observed in the early morning and late afternoon.
