Widespread across North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of the Arabian Peninsula. Inhabits arid plains, sandy deserts, rocky wadis, and scrubland with sparse vegetation.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, chattering calls, often given by the whole group. Look for groups of sandy-brown birds foraging on the ground. Its uniform fulvous coloration is a key identification feature.

Resident year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and late afternoon. Often observed in small to medium-sized noisy groups.
