A small tapaculo adapted to rocky habitats, found in the dry montane scrub of eastern Brazil. It is a secretive ground-dweller, often associated with boulders and caves.
Where to spot
Endemic to the rocky outcrops, caves, and montane scrub of southeastern Brazil, particularly in the Espinhaço Mountains of Minas Gerais and Bahia states.
How to spot
Listen for its distinct vocalizations. Observing it requires patient waiting near rocky areas, scanning for movement. It might occasionally perch on a rock but usually stays hidden.
When to spot
Most active and vocal during early morning and late afternoon. Can be found year-round in its specific rocky habitat.
