The Giant Hoopoe was a large, extinct species of hoopoe endemic to the island of Saint Helena. Known from fossil records, it was significantly larger than living hoopoes, adapted to its island environment.
Where to spot
Known only from fossil remains on the island of Saint Helena, South Atlantic Ocean. Its habitat would have been the island's native woodlands and open areas before human colonization.
How to spot
Cannot be observed in the wild. Information is derived solely from paleontological studies.
When to spot
Extinct. Last known existence pre-16th century, likely wiped out by introduced predators and habitat destruction after human settlement.
