Spotted
A small, distinctly spotted tapaculo that closely resembles a wren, inhabiting dense bamboo thickets in the Atlantic Forest. It is often detected by its high-pitched calls.
Where to spot
Found in dense bamboo thickets and dense undergrowth of humid montane Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and eastern Paraguay.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often high-pitched and musical, calls. It is very secretive and hard to see, moving furtively within dense bamboo. Patience and a quiet approach are essential.
When to spot
Most active and vocal during early morning and late afternoon. Can be observed year-round in its specific forest habitat.

Despite its common name suggesting a wren, it is genetically a tapaculo, highlighting convergent evolution and the challenges of classifying cryptic forest birds.
